Escape!

We ran away from Tennessee and escaped to Mobile, Alabama for the weekend. We left 40 and 50 degree highs with rain and drove to 70 and 80 degree highs with sunshine. There was another purpose to the trip as there is a teeny-tiny chance that maybe maybe maybe, we will get a transfer to Mobile. So we wanted to check it out and see what we thought. The beach was this huge bonus to the trip!

We stopped at a little park before crossing the long causeway to beautiful Dauphin Island. Vance and Blake were watching the pelicans fly.

I was snapping pictures out the windows as we drove. This one is a little spotty because it's through the windshield.

Oh, my goodness do they have a nice beach! We had to hike quite a distance to get down to the gulf, and I just wasn't expecting that much sand. I'm used to beaches where you can see your car from the water.

When Vance set Blake down he stood for a second and then touched the sand and sat down to play. We had to carry him the rest of the way down to the water. He would have happily played right there.

Until he discovered waves.

He has no fear. Even though the water was cool he didn't hesitate. This huge smile lit up his face when each wave hit him.

Every time he looked down and watched the water he'd loose his balance.

Of course he played more in the sand.

He had his little shovel and pail and he'd dig a scoop of sand and carry it to the water to throw it in.

It was a gorgeous day. I wish we had more time to play at the beach. I actually wish we'd have brought our swim suits. I really didn't expect it to be so warm and pretty. I did manage to sunburn my shoulders a little bit. It feels so good after a long winter!

Happy Post

Well, after adding and re-adding I guess the manufacturer coupons get taken off at the end in the grand total. What is really puzzling to me is this means customer service was wrong when I had them check my receipt. I don't think I'm going to give Target their $2 back. :)

Since I promised Kelly I'd do a happier post I thought I'd just put up a few just because pictures of Blake. He always makes me happy.

I love this one. Blake is making Shane work harder. Shane has been working out enough that Blake's weight doesn't really slow him down.

Blake's Uncle Von was able to stop by for a visit last week. He hammed it up quite a bit and really enjoyed seeing his uncle.

Blake helping lead Lola. Poor Lola, Blake loves her a little too much. She's just a tiny bit overwhelmed by him.

I'm still slowly looking through Illinois pictures. Who doesn't love a slightly chaotic family photo? Actually I thought this one of all the cousins and kids with Great-Grandma turned out pretty good.

What's on my mind

A lot actually. First last night while at Aldi's we had a psychotic woman go off on Vance and I about being violent parents. Nope not joking. Last night Vance and I had this great idea. The three of us would go out to eat at a nice sit-down dinner and then go grocery shopping. Blake had other plans. We made it to the point of our entrees actually arriving before he totally melted down, because he was done eating and wanted down. So my sweet not-so-baby boy pitched one big-ol' fit and Vance scooped him up and went out to the car. I got our waitress to give me to-go cups and boxes and paid and left. So we almost-enjoyed are not so quiet dinner while sitting in the restaurant parking lot in the car.
Next we headed to Kroger where we didn't make it to the second aisle before Blake was screaming again. We repeated the restaurant scene with me hurrying to finish the shopping while Vance again waited in the car with Blake.
We had one last stop to make at Aldi's for all of about 20 items. We debated about not going but we thought Aldi's wouldn't be as crowded so Blake could get down and walk like he wanted to. He wasn't down very long before he took off under the gate at the cash registers and headed towards the door. He stopped long enough when Vance and I both said, "Blake No! Come back!" to wave and say "Bye-bye!" and then took off running. Vance opened the gate and went after him and I ran between an empty check out lane to head him off. He almost made the open door before Vance caught him. Blake protested loudly. Vance asked him twice if he wanted to go sit in the car and when Blake kept screaming Vance started for the door again. It was at that point that a woman near check out just started going off. At first I didn't even realize she was talking to us because it was so ludicrous. She said something about he's just a little boy he doesn't understand violence! To which another woman in check out who had witnessed the whole thing looked at her and said, "Lady what are you talking about?" Well this got her more worked up and she kept loudly talking about she was tired of violent parents and it just made her mad. One of the cashier's gave her a funny look and asked her why she was so upset. I thought briefly about confronting her, but Vance was already headed out the door with Blake and before she started going off on us I'd already started up another aisle so I just kept going. She was making a big enough scene without me adding to it.
We had parked right by the store's cart return and when she came out Vance was outside with Blake. She was glaring at him and still muttering so he asked her what the heck was wrong with her. She didn't say a word. She was so upset she couldn't get her quarter out of the cart. She stalked off and with her watching Vance went over and took her quarter out and pocketed it.
We had several customers and clerks make a point of telling us she was wrong, but it was still upsetting. Other than getting her quarter, that part was ok.

My second beef is with Target. I've been trying to save money by shopping at Target because I can use manufacturer coupons and Target coupons on the same items for extra savings. For awhile I had been thinking things weren't adding up, but usually when I'd notice I would already be home so I'd never do anything about it. I finally did go ask customer service and after quite a bit of adding they did confirmed what I had thought, my manufacturer coupons were showing on the receipt but not being counted. To make it more confusing it wasn't every manufacturer coupon. It was only when there was a section on the receipt that subtotaled my discounts under "Package Total".

The total on the first section should be .55 cheaper and on the second one it should be $6 cheaper. I started adding and in the last year I found over $40 in errors where I had overpaid. Customer service did correct the one receipt I showed them by refunding me the amount, but they told me it was a corporate problem. So I'm scanning all my wrong receipts in to send off with one scathing letter to Target's Corporate headquarters.

The last thing is something I'm just plain bummed about. Blake chipped a front tooth! I know they are just baby teeth, but he didn't even have all of them in.

Such a little red neck boy. And although he did cry hard when he chipped it he's actually just fussing in the picture because I wouldn't let him hold the camera. So now what? Do dentists fix baby teeth? There's no way he'd sit still long enough to even have it fixed. I guess I just wait.
