Super Zoo Day

Super Bowl Sunday was half price day at the Nashville Zoo.  We took advantage of the low price and the lack of crowds.  The weather was overcast and in the 50's, but with no rain it was a nice day.

Blake always loves the play area.  It was a little limited because the slides were wet from an overnight rain and the padded play area for toddlers was too soggy for anyone to play on.  Instead we climbed all over the big fort.
 Climbing over and through!
Blake took a little coaxing to go into some of the darker tunnels and he refused to climb on the netting that goes out over the top of a little lake.
We were literally the first and only ones on the carousel.  Blake loved it.  He made me laugh when he was this picture because he told the lion, "No bite!"

The elephants were being fed and we were able to not only see them up close, but to talk to their handler who was out with them.  Interesting and fun!

Blake watching the red river hogs with Dad.

The giraffes were also right up close when we first walked up.

The reptile house with its aquarium is always a hit.  This time I think Blake found more of the slower moving reptiles like the snakes and lizards, but the fish as always are his favorite.

Checking out the turtles and sting ray.

I love the solarium.  The birds are always so pretty.

The little zoo train is always a hit.  Blake had this huge grin on his face the whole ride.

When the ride ended he was all charged up and literally just took off running down the hill yelling, "Hurray!"  Vance had to go catch him because he was just off like a shot!

A lot of the animals were more active with the cooler weather.  Only a couple exhibits were in like the ant eaters, and lorikeets.
Petting zoo was fun, and Blake got to pet one of the juvenile camels.

The meerkats crack me up and fascinate Blake.  He loved peeking at them.  He kept telling them to go back in there holes.  I think it just bothered him that they weren't very organized.  The day was a perfect way for us to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday.  I could see making a tradition out of it.

Weee!

This is from Christmas, it isn't really Christmasey, no wrapping paper or lights, so I thought it would be okay to post a little late. Ahem. Okay a couple months late. Blake's taking a ride on his John Deere tractor. It is cell-phone video so the quality isn't very sharp.
